WARWICK — For its ongoing celebration of 400 years of Shakespeare, the Albert Wisner Public Library will present a program that looks into the lives of the Anne Hathaway and William Shakespeare on Friday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m.
Presenter Joanne Zipay will explore what little is known about Anne Hathaway, the woman who was married to history’s greatest dramatist.
What kind of a relationship existed in their 34 years of marriage as she was at their home raising the three children in Stratford-Upon-Avon while he worked in the London theatre?
Did Mrs. Shakespeare have a job?
Their wedding was quickly arranged. She was 25 and he was 18.
Did William Shakespeare love his wife?
Did he include her in his writing?
And finally, a modern-day concept will be bridged: “How has modern feminist scholarship given us new perspectives on ‘traditional’ ideas about Anne Hathaway Shakespeare?” Zipay asks.
Zipay is the founder and artistic director/producer of Judith Shakespeare Company of NYC. She obtained a BA in Education and specifically English and Theatre at SUNY Oneonta.
She holds an MFA in the Professional Actor Training Program of the University of San Diego/Old Globe Theatre. She annually teaches at Collin College/Collin Theatre Center, Plano, TX and adjuncts at SUNY Orange, the Stella Adler Conservatory in NYU, City College of NY (CUNY), and Pace University in NYC.
The British Theatre Guide wrote: “Ms. Zipay has a passion and mastery of the text which is awe-inspiring.”
