Who settled the Beekman Patent?

    Goshen — The Orange County Genealogical Society (www.ocgsny.org) will present a program: “The Settlers of the Beekman Patent, Dutchess County, New York, An Historical and Genealogical Study of all the 18th Century Settlers in the Patent” by the author, Frank J. Doherty, on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 10:30 a.m. The Society is located at 1841 Historic Courthouse, 101 Main Street, in Goshen. Frank J. Doherty was raised in Putnam County, N.Y., and attended Carmel schools and graduated from Manhattan College in New York City. In 1971 he and his wife purchased the Buck farm in LaGrange, part of the original Beekman Patent, and he began an historical quest to find out what could be learned about the ancestry of the house. In 1990 he published the first volume of his series. Volume 1: Historical Records. In 1992, he began the second phase of the work, compiling the genealogies of all the 18th century resident surnames in the Patent, over 1300 in all. He has just published the eighth of these volumes. A regular monthly meeting will be held at 9 a.m., followed by the program at 10:30 a.m. The meeting and program are free of charge and open to the public.
