Who killed Edwin Drood?
Warwick Valley High School Drama Club to perform murder mystery musical in March Warwick - The Warwick Valley High School Drama Club is ready to begin rehearsals for the Warwick premiere of the murder mystery musical, The Mystery of Edwin Drood. Based on the unfinished novel by Charles Dickens, the play won several major theatrical awards in 1986, including the Tony Award for best musical. Set in London’s Music Hall Royale in 1892, the audience will be welcomed to each evening’s performance by more than 60 cast members. The Chairman, Mr. William Cartwright, will guide the audience through the twists and turns of this audience-participation musical right to the disappearance of young Edwin Drood on Christmas Eve. Is Edwin dead? If so, who killed Drood? Was it the wicked choirmaster, John Jasper, or the fair Rosa Bud? Could it have been either Helena or Neville Landless, who both have their reasons for wanting Drood out of the way? Perhaps it was the drunken stonemason Durdles, the Princess Puffer, or the Reverend Crisparkle? At each performance, the audience will decide who the murderer and the detective are, giving each performance a distinctly different ending. Drood is being directed by Nick DiLeo, who is celebrating his tenth anniversary as advisor of the WVHS Drama Club. Joining him once again are David Crone and Barbara Welch of Warwick as musical directors, and Beth Maisonet as choreographer. The cast and crew of Drood are comprised completely of WVHS students from all grade levels. Drood will be performed on Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m., and on Saturday, March 18, at 1 and 8 p.m. Residents may order advance tickets by calling 987-3050, voice mail box #4100, beginning Feb. 27th. Based on the turnout tor the Drama Club’s previous productions, residents are urged to order their tickets in advance.
