West Point on the March at Eisenhower Hall

| 23 Dec 2012 | 06:57

— The West Point Concert Band will present a concert devoted to American march music on Sunday, Jan. 13 in Eisenhower Hall Theatre. The concert begins at 3 p.m.

Comprised almost entirely of marches, the repertoire chosen for this performance includes marches from three categories: divisional marches, West Point marches, and other works of note, including four marches by John Philip Sousa. This performance is free and open to the public.

Divisions frequently adopt marches as a way to instill pride in their soldiers. Some famous divisional marches the West Point Band will present include Dogface Soldier (3rd Infantry), Garry Owen (7th Cavalry), All American Soldier (82nd Airborne), and Screaming Eagles (101st Air Assault). Following the divisional marches, the band will perform three marches unique to West Point: On Brave Old Army Team, The Official West Point March, and Graduation March. The final portion of the concert includes several marches by “The March King” Sousa, including Washington Post March and The Thunderer.
