— It's designed to represent the sophistication, elegance and fun focused on the traditions of America's greatest horse race, the Kentucky Derby.
This year, during the 144th running of the Derby on this Saturday evening, May 5, the Warwick Wine Garden and Piano Bar at 22 McEwen Street will host its third annual Kentucky Derby fund raiser.
Proceeds from the celebration and after party event will go to Winslow Therapeutic Center, a non-profit organization accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, devoted to the special needs population of the Hudson Valley and surrounding area in northern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut.
The popular event, titled "Talk Derby to Me," will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. and feature many of the traditions of the Kentucky Derby.
They will include serving champagne and Mint Juleps, Southern-style Kentucky fare, Twin Spires Dessert Cake, a ladies hat pageant with prizes awarded, live music featuring the Brian Bardell Trio and, of course, a multi-screen viewing of an exciting two minutes in sports.
Chris Littell, who owns the Wine Garden together with his wife Marilyn, said the objective of this event is to present an impeccable and well organized and fun "Kentucky Derby Celebration" so that it will continue to be an annual event of the Warwick Wine Garden & Piano Bar and the Village of Warwick.
Last year volunteers raised almost $1,800 with the "Winslow Winners Circle Derby Chance" and the event raised over $3,000 for Winslow.
Once again everyone is invited this Saturday, May 5, and Kentucky Derby attire is encouraged.
