Warwick. Warwick Valley Chorale announces Spring 2025 concerts and scholarships

The Warwick Valley Chorale announces three upcoming performances of its 84th annual Spring concert. Led by conductor Ron DeFesi and accompanied by Gail Johnson, this season’s presentations will feature Mozart’s Requiem in D minor.
The concert dates are as follows:
Friday, May 9, at 7 p.m. at Goshen Christian Reformed Church (2440 Rt. 17A, Goshen).
Friday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church (58 North St., Middletown).
Sunday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church (75 Sanfordville Road, Warwick).
These concerts will also feature solo performances from the winners of the Stanley Curtis Memorial Scholarship: first prize winner Abigail Yurchuk, a junior at Warwick Valley High School; second prize winner Abigail Straebler, a senior at Port Jervis High School; and third prize winner Taylor Longo, a senior at Valley Central High School.
Curtis was the Chorale’s director from 1986 until his passing in 2020. He was a talented tenor who performed across Europe and throughout the New York metropolitan area. He taught music in the Monroe-Woodbury school district, followed by decades as a professor of music at SUNY Orange.
“Stanley loved the chorale and his community of singers and what they made together,” said Scott Curtis, son of Professor Curtis. “We’re honored and grateful to the many members of the group who generously donated to the scholarship fund and thankful to the committee for coordinating the competition. It’s heartening and encouraging to see the talent and thoughtfulness that each of the students presented in their essays and performances. We’re very optimistic that the musical community in Orange County will continue to be vibrant for generations to come. But most of all we’re simply touched that we can help some young musicians in their journey in Dad’s honor. Be good, do good and break a leg!”
Concert admission is free; donations are appreciated. For further information, visit www.WarwickValleyChorale.org and the Warwick Valley Chorale Facebook page.
