SUGAR LOAF - Clarissa Cupero, who graduated this year from Warwick Valley High School, will be the opening act at the Lycian Centre’s fourth annual free “On the Lawn” summer concert series on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. The two-hour concert will feature the popular rock-and-roll band, “The Roost.” Cupero, the daughter of James and Lynn Cupero of Warwick, was recognized during her high school years with “All County” and “Area All State” honors for vocal excellence. As a senior, she served as president of the Meistersingers, the high school’s select choir, and participated on two occasions with the group at Disney Honors Music Festival in Orlando, Fla. Cupero recently completed her first extended-play CD at The Cutting Room in New York City. The highly respected professional studio has recorded such well-known artists as Toni Braxton, Ryan Cabrera, Kanye West, Aerosmith and the Red Hot Chili Peppers to name a few. Cupero’s music is pop/rock with a style that is entirely distinctive. She wrote and composed all of the songs on the new CD, drawing upon life experiences. In addition to her vocals, Cupero plays acoustic and electric guitar on all of her tracks. During the CD’s production, she played with established musicians including percussionist Patrick Carmichael and nationally acclaimed pianist and organist, Billy Stein. Although Cupero has not dismissed the possibility of a professional singing career, she will be attending Siena College in September and plans to major in Spanish with a concentration in education. Cupero’s recorded music can soon be accessed at no cost on her MySpace site at www.myspace.com/clarissacupero. The Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts was established in 1993. The not-for-profit Kings Theatre Company, founded in 1998 offers the free Summer Concert Series.
