Warwick — Mother’s Day is just two weeks away. Most want to buy their moms something as unique and individual as they are. Not always an easy thing. Roberta Green, Alexandra Winkelstein, and Lea Richard just might be able to help with that. The three women design and make their own lines of jewelry. On Saturday, May 5, they will hold a show at Green’s studio, at 39 Kenilworth Lane from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Green specializes in ceramic jewelry. The former art teacher recently set up her pottery studio and went from making functional pottery to jewelry. “I sold my pottery at craft shows and did a little bit of ceramic jewelry,” said Green. “People gravitated toward the jewelry.” She mixes glass and ceramic in many of her pieces, which sell locally at Moondancer in both Sugar Loaf and Florida. She also sells some of her wares to boutiques in Bergen County and Long Beach Island. Green met up with Winkelstein, another local artist and silversmith, at Applefest. “We had booths near each other,” said Green. The two chatted, realized they had kids in the same elementary school here in Warwick and decided to work together. Winkelstein, also an art teacher, still teachers silversmithing. She has small adult classes in her studio where she teaches basic techniques and tailors the classes to what her students want. “Her styles are simple and elegant,” said Green, “and her pieces are unique and interesting.” Richard is a former student of Winkelstein’s who specializes in beaded jewelry. Her work combines intricate beading with silver. All three will be combining their art skills and opening up the studio to the public next Saturday. “People like to buy things from the people who actually make it,” said Green. “For me, there is a connection with taking a lump of clay and making it into something that makes someone happy. Most artists want to connect with the buyers more. This show gives us that opportunity.” To see more of Green’s work, go to her Web site www.rgclaycreations.com. The show is open to the public on Saturday, May 5, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.
