MONROE — This Labor Day weekend, holding to tradition, Museum Village will once again become center stage for life during the Civil War era. The museum will be transported back in time as visitors have an opportunity to witness a very integral time in the country’s history.

On Saturday, Aug. 31, and Sunday, Sept. 1, guests will be able to visit the historic camps of Civil War Soldiers and ask about their lifestyle, weapons and the food they ate. Visitors will become eyewitnesses to the demonstrations of standard Civil War tactics, troop movements and life in general. The Sutlers, who were the merchants that provided goods to the soldiers, will be selling their 19th Century style merchandise to the public.

“This year marks the 38th year Museum Village has hosted the Civil War Re-enactment on Labor Day Weekend,” Michael Sosler, the museum’s director, said in his press release detailing the event. “As usual we are expecting our visitors to take the time to meet and interact with all of the Civil War groups. We will also have President Lincoln and General Grant here to help the people understand about life and politics during this time. And as you stroll around our green, you can visit all of our buildings and watch the blacksmith, the potter, the printer, the broom maker and the candle maker working at their trades.”
