Walking is for the birds
Ringwood, N.J. A Beech Road Bird Walk will be offered from 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 18, at the Weis Ecology Center at 150 Snake Den Road in Ringwood, N.J. Located across Route 511 from the Long Pond boat launch, the area has open water, mudflats, meadows, woodlands, and stream habitats that attract diverse migrating and breeding birds. Associate naturalist Suzanne Serafini will offer snapshots of spring’s arrival. The center is one of nine operated by the New Jersey Audubon Society, with day and residential environmental education programs for schools, scouts and other youth and adult groups, and families. The Weis Visitors Center, open during business hours, houses turtles, snakes, seasonal exhibits, and a nature store with field guides, bird feeders and accessories, kid stuff, regional trail maps and more. The cost is $5, and free for members of the New Jersey Audubon Society. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars. For more information, visit www.njaudubon.org.
