Warwick — With a focus on world outreach, Vision - Live will perform at Warwick Valley Community Center, on Friday, Dec. 8 and will donate all proceeds to the UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) relief efforts in South Darfur. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. The show runs from 7 - 10 p.m. The cover charge is $5. The event for local teens will be hosted by Vision Community Church, and draw bands from the surrounding area. The bands committed to performing for free include - Left to Chance, Sub-Missed, ZEN, Afraid of the Dark (A.O.T.D.) and a new band, Aircraft Replica. “Vision-Live is a great way for the teens of our community to link their creativity to the causes of peace and justice in the world,” said Don Heatley, Vision’s pastor. “As a church, one of Vision’s missions is to provide those opportunities to everyone in our community.” The event is well supervised and is geared to high school and middle school age students. Dancing, refreshments and musical entertainment are guaranteed. Bands interested in performing in the future should contact Caroline Beischer, coordinator at 986-5883. UMCOR is the not-for-profit global humanitarian aid organization of the United Methodist Church, and runs a reception center in El Ferdous for those coming to settlements and camps in South Darfur. The center is suffering from lack of funds and has few shelter materials, blankets or cooking utensils to distribute to newly arriving families. UMCOR works in both rebel-held and government-held territories in South Darfur, which is why it can sometimes maintain programs when other organizations can’t. Vision Community Church is a new church start that meets every Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Warwick Valley Community Center (Doc Fry). The children and youth ministries at the church place a strong emphasis on the experiential and service to others. Nursery is provided weekly. Visit www.visiblechurch.org for more information.
