USMA Band's Jazz Knights present saxophonist Chris Vadala

    West Point — The United States Military Academy Band’s Jazz Knights will continue the Music Under the Stars concert series at Trophy Point Amphitheatre at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 29, on the grounds of the United States Military Academy at West Point. This concert will feature Chris Vadala with the Jazz Knights, playing a number of woodwind instruments including flute, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophones. He will also be giving a free clinic on jazz improvisation and woodwind doubling at 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 28 at Egner Hall, located at 685 Hardee Place, West Point. The clinic will take place in the Jazz Knights rehearsal hall, on the top floor of the building. Both the clinic and performance are free and open to the public. Vadala has appeared on more than 100 recordings to date, as well as innumerable jingle sessions, film and TV scores, performing on all the saxophones, flutes and clarinets. A native of Poughkeepsie, he graduated from the Eastman School of Music, earning the honor of the Performer’s Certificate in saxophone as well as a B.M. in Music Education. He also received an M.A. in clarinet from Connecticut College and pursued postgraduate study in woodwinds at Eastman. Vadala is the director of jazz studies and saxophone professor at the University of Maryland.
