U.S.M.A. Band offers Spring Spectacular

    West Point — The United States Military Academy Band, under the direction of Lt. Col. Timothy J. Holtan, will present a Spring Spectacular for all ages at 8 p.m. on Friday, May 5, at Eisenhower Hall in West Point. In addition to the works of Carolyn Bremer, Henry Fillmore, and Howard Hanson, the band’s principal bassoonist, Sgt. 1st Class Chris Eberle, will perform the first movement of Carl Maria von Weber’s “Concerto for Bassoon.” Sgt. 1st Class MaryKay Messenger will sing Victor Herbert’s “Art is Calling for Me.” She will be joined by Sgt. Maj. Rick Gerard for the performance of “Preachers, Thieves and Acrobats.” Composed by John Gibson, resident composer of the Dallas Wind Symphony, the selection is scored for percussion and two narrators. Both Gerard and Messenger will portray seven different characters. Allow extra travel time for inspections at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates.
