Monroe - Here’s a list of upcoming events at Smith’s Clove Park, including some new programs along with old favorites: Community and holiday events Friday, Oct. 27, 7:30-10 p.m. “Scary Dancing” for kids 9 and over. At the upper pavilion. DJ, scary atmosphere, storytelling and giveaways. Sunday, Oct. 29, 1-3:30 p.m. “Hay Ride and Pumpkin Painting.” Crafts, prizes and Halloween costume contest. Saturday, Nov. 25, 9 a.m. “Turkey Trot.” The 16th annual 5K Race/Walk through downtown Monroe. Begin and end at the park. Download forms at www.smithsclovepark.org Sunday, Dec. 3, 6 p.m. “Holiday Tree Lighting.” New programs Call the park line at 783-9108 to let park officials know if you’re interested in any of the following new programs: “Open Rek” - a new after school program with instruction on “basic home repairs,” “sewing,” “cooking,” aerobics and nutrition, kid games and more. Have a suggestion for the Winter Movie Festival? Park officials will use the new addition to the park office to offer movies during the winter. Ideas welcome. Outdoor movie nights will return next year. A Smith’s Clove Park ski club is forming. Busses will take residents to and from Mountain Creek in New Jersey with lessons and open skiing available. Smith’s Clove Park is located at 133 Spring St., Monroe. The Monroe Joint Parks and Recreation Commission meets on the fourth Monday of the month at the park office.
