Upcoming events scheduled at the Florida Public Library
Florida - As part of the ongoing “Page to Screen” program during February, the Florida Public Library will present two more movies on its big screen. Children in grades K-5 are invited to see “Hoot” on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Popcorn and juice will be provided. On Wednesday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m., the library will show “The Devil Wears Prada.” This program is for adults only and coffee and desserts will be served. Both books by the same name are available for check out at the library now. Other programs include: Adults can check out a copy of “Snow Flower and the Secret Fan” by Lisa See now and register for the book discussion on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. The Books and Beyond programs on Tuesday afternoons at 4 p.m. are for children in grades K-5. The current six-week theme is the Jungle World. On Feb. 20, make jungle juice and banana boats and read stories about jungle birds and butterflies. On Feb. 27, hear jungle drums and learn about the instruments of the African jungles. This is a drop-in program, so no registration is required. Young adults in grade 6 and up meet on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. On Feb. 20, cook up a tasty tart and enjoy the fruits of your labor. On Feb. 27, the library will host the Anime Café. See a new anime movie on its big screen. Snacks will be served. On Saturday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m., teens and adults are invited to meet actress Anna Stuart, star of “One Life to Live,” “As the World Turns,” and most recently, “All My Children” as Mary Greenlee Smythe. Stuart will talk about her life in front of the camera and behind the scenes of the most popular soap operas. The programs at the Florida Public Library are free and open to residents of the Florida school district. Though preference is given to Florida residents, others may join the programs as space permits. Registration in person or by calling 651-7659 is required for all programs unless otherwise specified.
