Two bands inspired by the mountains play Bodles

Chester The beauty of the Shawangunk Mountains has a place in the hearts of two bands that will share the stage at Bodles Opera House in Chester on Aug. 25. The Trapps Sean Schenker, Warren Gold, and Jason Sarubbi take their name from a rock-climbing area of the Shawangunks, which inspires the band. The Trapps’ latest recording is “Good Luck or Goodbye.” The Kurt Henry Band ranges from new pop and alternative to electric bluegrass and R&B. Mac Rebbenac, aka known as Dr. John, says Kurt Henry and the band (Henry, guitar, voice; Alan Groth, bass; Cheryl Lambert, voice; and Eric Parker, drums, percussion) have “excellent” vocals, “creative” chord progressions and melodies that are “direct and concise.” Henry, who is from New Paltz, has opened for many groups on the international stage. Locally, he has devoted time to causes such as saving Lake Minnewaska and the Shawangunks. His latest recording is “Love’s Enough.” The double bill will perform at 9 p.m.; doors open at 6:30. Tickets are $12.50. Coming up: The New York Swing Exchange, a 17-piece orchestra that performs a mix of jazz, swing and ballads, returns to Bodles on Aug. 26. The band will be joined by vocalist Maureen Morrissey. Showtime is 8:30 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30. Dinner and the show cost $24.95. The show alone is $15. Bodles holds an open mic every Thursday at 8 p.m. Signup starts at 7 p.m. Admission is $3. For more information call 469-4595 or visit www.bodles.com.
