Traditional Indian dance drama to perform in Monroe

Monroe Ramayana Dance Drama, directed and choreographed by Pandit S.N. Charka, will present a live performance on Saturday, July 28, at the Lake Stage at Ananda Ashram, 13 Sapphire Rd., Monroe. The performance will feature dramatic scenes from the great epic of ancient India, which portrays the eternal battle between good and evil n the story of our mind. The Ramayana production, originally inspired by Shri Brahmananda Sarasvati, has been a highlight of the summer program at Ananda Ashram since the early 1980s. A new musical score by composer Shankar Shambhouge, new choreography and new costumes elevate the beauty and charm of this year’s production. Created with the efforts of both American and Indian dancers, actors and technical staff, it is presented as a multimedia pageant at our outdoor amphitheater. Bring blankets and warm clothing for performance. Admission is $15; members $12. Family rates are available.
