Three-day rustic workshop begins Oct. 3

Warwick — Artist Daniel Mack is offering his once-a-year three-day workshop on Oct. 3-4-5 on the techniques, tools and attitudes of working with natural materials to make furniture, architectural elements and sculptural objects. Mack introduces the mortise and tenon joint, mechanical joinery, use of adhesives and as well as lashing, carving and embellishment. Attention is given to how projects develop with natural materials. What is the language of sticks, bark, bones and stones? And what level of craft and joinery is appropriate with natural materials? Participants can expect to make three or more rustic projects. It’s held at Mack’s Warwick workshop and is limited to six people. The cost is $420, including materials There is limited room on just Oct. 3 for a few extra people to come to make a small model size rustic chair that day only. Mack has been building with trees, logs, sticks and driftwood for more than 30 years.
