Thoroughly Modern Millie flaps her way through life
West Point Thoroughly Modern Millie, the most awarded new show on Broadway in 2002, will be arriving at West Point’s Eisenhower Hall Theatre for one performance at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 7. The winner of six Tony awards, including Best Musical and Best Orchestration, the musical is based on the Oscar-winning film of the same name. Directed and choreographed by Joey McKneely, the show takes audiences back to the time of the great American musical. McKneely is a two-time Tony award nominee for “Smokey Joe’s Café” and “The Life.” His most recent Broadway choreography for “The Boy from Oz” earned Hugh Jackman a Tony award. McKneely has worked as performer, choreographer and director on a broad range of international stage, television and film credits. The high spirited musical romp features two songs from the original 1967 film, four standards from the 1920’s, and nine new songs written by composer Jeanine Tesori and lyricist Dick Scanlan. The musical takes place in 1922 Manhattan, during the time of jazz, speakeasies and moonshine. Midwestern girl Millie Dillmount makes her way to New York City in search of love and a “modern marriage.” Seats are $36 to $40.
