WARWICK — The Tuscan Café on South Street in the Village of Warwick hosted the third annual Tista Creative Arts Exhibit on Friday evening, April 27.

The event was held in memory of Daniel Rocco Battista, the son of Rocco and Judy Battista, who died on April 26, 2008, at age 20.

“The Tista Memorial Creative Arts Exhibit,” said Judy Battista, “is a project of love that gathers different artists in creative media. It celebrates the many talents of Daniel. He loved music, art, poetry, mechanics, cooking, sports, writing, dance, skateboarding, trumpet, and singing and was so talented in all he did.”

The exhibit is designed to pay tribute to him in many ways.

All art done by his friends is inspired by aspects of their friendship.

A mannequin, for example, was a project of six friends who each took a section and made it into a work of art. The mannequin and the skateboard have become the symbol of the Tista art exhibit.

The art exhibit also featured poetry, dance, music and song.

“We felt not the sadness of Danny being gone, but the joy of his spirit still with us,” said Battista. “Each year I put new pieces up that were done by him. This year I included his latest advent company T-shirt designs in graphics, his various sketches, and a new piece we just received, a sunflower drawing in pastel that Danny made for our neighbor when he was 11 years old. We had also received two new sunflower submissions as well and this is why we choose the sunflower theme this year.”

Battista explained that other submissions have a significant meaning for each of the artists.

The exhibit was held from April 27 until May 31. All proceeds benefit the Music Scholarship fund established by the St. Stephens Educational Trust fund in memory of Danny Battista.
