WARWICK — The Warwick Valley School District’s K-12 Art shows and high school scholarship auction takes place this Friday night, May 2.

The elementary and middle school art show will be held at the district office from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Then hop up to the high school lobby for the “Rock-n-Roll Art Show,” beginning at 6 p.m.

The chair auction will follow at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The chairs will be on display before the auction in the high school lobby.

Interested buyers may also check the web site www.warwickartauction.weebly.com for silent bidding.

The stories behind the chairs
High school art students have been working for several months to transform an ordinary chair into a work of art. One hundred percent of the proceeds go to graduating seniors in the form of art scholarships (this a not-for-profit tax-free donation).

The chairs are painted in a style of an art movement, style or a particular artist. The junior and senior portfolio class and a few other juniors and seniors, as well as art department faculty members, will be participating in the event.

The 30 chairs range in style from The Wizard of Oz, 1950’s Drive In and a Steam Punk chair to a beautifully rendered Military Working Dogs chair and a custom built Captain Kirk’s captain's chair.

There is a chair for everyone.
