Sugar Loaf — Kings Theatre Company will present “Christmas with the Mantovani Orchestra and Chorus” at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts on King’s Highway in Sugar Loaf. Like a Santa’s workshop, Mantovani’s Christmas concerts offers a variety of selections: big and dramatic ballet numbers by Tchaikovsky, a festive Santa’s sleigh ride, the devotional Ave Maria, a humorous March of the Toys, and traditional music, whose melodies come back to listeners like old friends. Mantovani has one of the most legendary careers ever recorded in the field of light concert music. Sumptuous sound, sonorous harmonies and meticulous phrasing are the hallmarks of Mantovani’s musical stamp, the ink of which is the now-famous and uniquely orchestrated cascading sound. The “sound” has resulted in the sale of over 35 million albums in a period of twenty years. Formally attired, the forty-three member ensemble plays to people of all ages, and is partial to senior audiences, those for whom Mantovani’s romantic music stirs memories of courtship days. Tickets are $34 for adults and $25 for youth 18 years and younger. To purchase tickets, call the box office at 469-2287 between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. from Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call 469-2285.
