The Mannequin Project: The Book

Warwick - For 10 days last summer, more than 35 mannequins filled the store fronts and graced parks, parking lots and street corners around the Town of Warwick. The Mannequin Project, an inspiration of local artist Charlie DeCeseare, involved the transformation and re-creation of the mannequins by Warwick-area artists on the theme of “people’s impact on the environment.” A year later, the project is celebrated in release of The Mannequin Project book, a collection of photographs by J.T. Sanders and John Stage capturing this community sculpture exhibit. Sanders and Stage are both professional photographers residing in Warwick. Stage was first introduced to photography at Park Avenue School in 1938. He went on to a 42-year photojournalism career on assignments for magazines and advertising agencies in all 50 states and some 125 foreign countries. Now retired, he has turned his interest and his camera to local cultural and land conservation projects. Sander is a native of New York City. She began her career in 1980 working with ad agencies and movie studio, overtime developing her own style in the fine art of portraiture. She currently works out of her studio in Warwick focusing on portraits of families, individuals and celebrations of all kinds. Books will be available during the Warwick Summer Arts Festival for a $50 donation; it also can be ordered by sending a check for $55 (which includes shipping and handling) to: Community 2000, PO Box 2000, Warwick, NY 10990. The eighth annual Warwick Summer Arts Festival, a ten-day celebration of the arts featuring workshops, concerts and art exhibits, runs from July 6 to July 15 at sites around the town of Warwick.
