The history of Plum Point celebrated

New WIndsor - Take a look at the history of Plum Point, now known at Kowawese, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, Kowawese Unique Area, Route 9W, New Windsor. Dr. Joyce Conroy, an educator from the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, will explore the history of the Native Americans and the first settlers, the Mac Gregorie Party. Learn the importance of this piece of real estate during the Revolutionary War, including the Battery on land and the “Chevron-de-fries” under the water. Also, learn about the impact Bannerman’s Island has on Plum Point. The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum’s Saturday Nature Programs are a series of educational programs about the science, natural history and environment of the Hudson Highlands.
