The year was 1969. A group of new leaders entered the world stage, including Richard Nixon, Yassar Arafat, Golda Meir, Hafaz al-Assad and Muammar Gaddafi.
The Vietnam War continued as did student demonstrations.
The Soviet Union and China have border skirmishes as Honduras and El Salvador go to war.
Some of the milestone events of that year include the landing of the first man on the moon, Woodstock, the Miracle Mets World Series victory, the Beatles’ last public performance and the introduction of Sesame Street and Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
In honor of the 50th anniversary of that storied year, the Greenwood Lake Public Library will present “1969: 50 Years Later” on Thursday, July 18, 6:30 to 8 p.m. with lecturer and author Evan Weiner.
