SUGAR LOAF — “The Great American Trailer Park Musical,” an off-Broadway show that debuted in New York City, is on its first national tour and will appear at the Lycian Centre in Sugar Loaf on Friday, March 7, at 8 p.m. The play revolves around a regular guy named Norbert and his agoraphobic wife Jeannie whose 20-year marriage is threatened by Armadillo Acre’s newcomer, the hot young stripper, Pippi. The trailer park also plays home to a Greek-like chorus of women --- dysfunctional in their own right. The colorful characters and lasting friendships that are the heart of this side-splitting new musical. Los Angeles-based television and comedy writer Betsy Kelso wrote and directed the off-Broadway premiere of “The Great American Trailer Park Musical.” When it debuted in 2005, Kelso wanted audiences to laugh as well as relate to the characters she created. “I think all great comedy - no matter how broad - is rooted in reality,” said Kelso. “The funniest performers are the ones who play the craziest characters in the most ridiculous situations very straight.” The play has been dubbed as “Southpark meets Desperate Housewives” by The New York Sun, and called a “cheerfully trashy treat that offers plenty of finger-lickin fun” by the New Jersey Star-Ledger. Tickets are $40 and may be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre Box Office at 469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. or visit: www.lyciancentre.com.
