Tenth annual Black Dirt Feast to be held Aug. 7
PINE ISLAND — Aug. 7 will mark the tenth annual Black Dirt Feast.
This Farm-to-Table celebration pairs a sumptuous al fresco meal with fine wines on the great lawn of Scheuermann Farms and Greenhouses.
Guests sit at tablescapes of beautiful linens, china and crystal as they relax at sunset and listen to live music in the breathtaking Black Dirt region.
This year's fare consists of a six-course tasting menu from local chefs with salads by Heather Kurosz of Pennings’ Farm Market, a summery soup from Eddie Cullari of Eddie’s Roadhouse, fish from Erik Johansen of Iron Forge Inn, poultry by James Haurey of The Grange, meat from Steven Ernst of Westtown Fare with desserts from Jean Claude’s Patisserie and Bakery.
Shawn Hubbell of Amuzae will provide passed hors d’oeuvres during the cocktail hour, along with a raw bar sponsored by Hudson Valley Seafood. The Conscious Fork will provide vegetarian alternative courses.
Dana Distributors is sponsoring beer for the sixth year, again featuring Scottish Ale and Pine Island IPA from Mike Kraai of the Pine Island Brewery. And Black Dirt Distillery will once again feature its signature cocktail, the Black Dirt Manhattan, along with perhaps another “surprise 10th Anniversary” concoction.
Peck’s Wine and Spirits and Pine Island Wine and Liquors provide a selection of wines for the Feast.
The Hudson Valley String Quartet, an ensemble of professional musicians who reside in the area, will provide dinner entertainment. Local jazz artist Gabe Valle, of Monroe will entertain during the cocktail hour. Custom vases by Sharon Galbraith of East Ridge Pottery will feature floral arrangements by Sally Scheuermann cut from the farm.
The Black Dirt Feast is sponsored by the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce, and benefits the local community through its scholarship program for college bound students and donations to area food pantries.
The Black Dirt Feast showcases products from local farms and the award-winning chefs who utilize them.
