Temples to co-host speaker on victims of Holocaust

Monroe — The Joint Yom HaShoah Committee of the Monroe Temple Beth-El and Congregation Eitz Chaim will be hosting the Israeli-born, international specialist in the treatment of trauma victims and victims of mass disasters, with a special emphasis on the treatment of Holocaust victims, Dr. Yael Danieli, at the Temple Beth El in Monroe, on Sunday, April 15, at 7 p.m. Community members are invited to participate in this journey through the minds and souls of the victims of mass trauma and genocide dating from the Holocaust. Danieli wrote her doctoral dissertation on Holocaust victims and their children. She was one of the first pioneers in the research of post-traumatic stress syndrome, which became recognized as a specific diagnosis in 1980. Currently, Danieli has a private practice, is a professor at New York University and has teaching positions at two medical schools. She also consults with the Mayor of New York regarding 911, and is an adviser to the United Nations. She is assisting the Rwandan government in the process of compensation and rehabilitating its victims of genocide; is working with psychologists, politicians, educators, and media figures in Bosnia; has been a representative to the World Federation for Mental Health; a past-President of the International Society of Traumatic Stress Studies; and lectures on victimology and post-traumatic stress at international conferences. Danieli has also published several books, including “The International Handbook of Multi-generational Legacies of Trauma.” This event is free and open to the public.
