Sugar Loaf — Kings Theatre Company will present Argentina’s cultural export, Tango Buenos Aires, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf, on Friday, Oct. 12, at 8 p.m. Tango Buenos Aires is known throughout the Americas, Europe and the Far East as the most authentic representative of the Tango. Showcasing 12 dancers, six musicians (including two bandoneon players) and a singer, Tango Buenos Aires traces the 100-year-old tradition of the dance, translating the spirit of Argentina’s soul into movement. This high-energy company was created by composer Osvaldo Requena for a Buenos Aires cabaret. The ensemble crafts “swirling, fast-paced tapestries of movement, laced with proud postures and sensual couplings,” says The Washington Post. The New York Times called the show “…Sizzling, Sexy and Sophisticated!” The show is now led by pianist Cristian Zárate as Musical Director and also includes Pablo Mainetti, bandoneon player, as a prominent member of the orchestra. Tickets to this show are $36 for adults and $27 for youth (18 years and younger) and can be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre Box Office at 469-2287 Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information about this and other upcoming events, visit www.lyciancentre.com.
