CORNWALL — Join the Hudson Highlands Nature Museum for a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with birds of prey with its members’ only hawk walk on Saturdays, Nov. 10 and 17 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each day.
Head into the fields of the Museum’s Outdoor Discovery Center, located on Muser Drive across from 174 Angola Road with TC Bird Management and master Falconer Tommy Cullen on a pleasant educational walk, focusing on falconry and conservation, with Harris Hawks flying overhead and following along, free-flying from tree to tree.
As the walk progress, educators will call the birds down to their fists and feed them.
After learning falconry directly from the hawks themselves, you’ll see a traditional falcon training demonstration.
“You’re used to seeing majestic birds of prey soaring overhead," said Wildlife Education Manger Emily Nestlerode, "but have you ever wondered what it would be like to hold one yourself? Put on a falconer's glove and have your photo taken as the bird alights on your hand at the end of the program!”
Be sure to bring a camera and plenty of questions for this amazing adventure.
