Symphonic band to salute ‘Heroism and Remembrance'

    Concert to blend local performances with symphonic numbers MIDDLETOWN — The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band will salute and pay musical tribute to the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks with a concert entitled “Heroism and Remembrance: Symphonic Classics for Band.” The show will begin at 8 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 27 in Middletown’s Paramount Theater. The concert will feature classic symphonic band numbers, as well as the first local performances of three pieces, including Eric Ewazen’s “A Hymn for the Lost and Living (In Memoriam Sept. 11, 2001),” Quincy Hilliard’s “Requiem for Band” and William Owens’ “And My Spirit Lives On.” Additional musical selections on the program include Beethoven’s overture to “Fidelio,” Aram Khachaturian’s Three Dance Episodes from the ballet “Spartacus” and the finale to Dimitri Shostakovich’s “Fifth Symphony.” The band, under the direction of Kevin Scott, is comprised of SUNY Orange students and members of the community.
