Swimming lessons

Julia Morino learns water safety and swimming skills during a recent lesson at Inspire’s Swim Kids parent/child program. The next session will begin on Saturday, Feb. 23. Swim Kids is a series of swimming lessons that provide children with developmental disabilities the benefits of exercise and socialization within an aquatic program in a therapeutically heated pool. It focuses on water safety and swimming skills, as well as development of self-confidence and self-esteem. The parent/child lessons take place in a group setting that is designed to help parents understand their child’s specific abilities and limitations in the water, and to instruct them on how to best work with and have fun with their child in the water. Parents will also learn safety skills for children with special needs, how to help the child become more independent in the water, evaluation of the right flotation devices, and safe, fun water activities. Parent participation is required. The group lessons are comprised of six, 45-minute classes for $165. Individual lessons teach pre-swimming and early swimming skills and are provided in 30-minute sessions, available in blocks of five for $175. Call 294-8806 or visit: www.inspirecp.org.
