SUNY Orange to offer four trips abroad

    MIDDLETOWN — Students, faculty, staff and the general public will have four opportunities to travel and study abroad in 2007 as SUNY Orange will sponsor trips to Ireland, Greece, Italy and Peru through its English and Social Sciences departments. Three of the excursions - Greece, Italy and Ireland - will occur during the college’s Spring Break (March 16 to 25), while the Peru trip is slated for July 13-21. Anyone wishing to sign on for the Greece, Italy and Peru trips must register for Field Studies Course #26205, while the Ireland package requires registration in Field Studies Course #11192. English Professor Dr. Kathy Malia will organize the Ireland trip, which features tours of Dublin, Galway, Kinsale, Derry and the Aran Islands, along with a medieval banquet at an Irish castle, two theater performances and dinner and entertainment at Taylor’s Three Rock in Dublin. The trip will cost between $1,868 and $2,138, with final price determined by the number of participants. Round-trip airfare, hotel, seven breakfasts, transportation and guide are included. Those traveling to Greece will visit Athens, Delphi, Meteora, Macedonia, Pella, Vergina, Dion and Mt. Olympus. Round-trip airfare, hotel, all breakfasts, three dinners, tours, transportation and entrance to archeological sites and museums are included as part of the trip’s $1,998 price tag. Airport taxes are not. The itinerary for the trip to Italy features excursions to Venice, Florence, Assisi, Rome, Sorrento, Capri and Pompeii. The trip will cost $2,248 for students under the age of 21 and $2,613 for all students ages 21 and older. Round-trip airfare, hotels, guided tours and most meals are included. Professor Barry D. Kass is again organizing a tour entitled “Inca Civilization and the Spanish Conquest,” which feature a tour of Machu Picchu, the “Lost City” of the Incas. Other highlights include a hike on the Inca Trail in the Andes, tours of Cuzco and Lima and an optional stay in a jungle lodge in the Amazon region. The $2,500 cost includes round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, most meals and guided tours. Students can earn up to three college credits, depending on the trips. For some trips, attendance may be suggested or required for preliminary informational meetings, slide shows, lectures or briefings. Registration for SUNY Orange’s spring semester will run from Nov. 28 through Dec. 15 and from Jan. 2 through Jan. 10. Classes will begin on Jan. 16. Early registration for current students and re-admitted students opens Nov. 28. Registration for newly enrolled students begins Dec. 7. All other students who have yet to be admitted to one of the College’s approved degree or certificate programs may begin their registration process on Dec. 8. Members of the community who are interested in participating in either of the trips would register anytime after Dec. 8, unless they have previously been admitted to a degree or certificate program and have yet to finish that program.
