SUNY Orange to host Grammy-nominated saxophonist Donny McCaslin in concert on Jan. 31

MIDDLETOWN — Donny McCaslin, who has been nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for Best Improvised Jazz Solo, will be in concert at SUNY Orange on Friday, Jan. 31, at 8 p.m.

The saxophonist will be joined by pianist Kevin Hays, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Clarence Penn in the acoustic jazz concert in Orange Hall Theatre.

According to the press release from SUNY Orange's Office of Cultural Affairs: "The sounds of McCaslin’s stellar improvisation highlight his composing skills as well as create an atmosphere in which band members interact and communicate with one another."

Tickets are $5 for children; $15 for adults; $10 for senior citizens; and free for students.

Orange Hall is located at the corner of Wawayanda and Grandview Avenues in Middletown on the campus of Orange County Community College.

Earlier on Friday, he and his band also will be giving a free master class in room 23 of Orange Hall, beginning at noon.
