SUNY Orange Symphonic to present lawn concert Aug. 4
MIDDLETOWN The SUNY Orange Symphonic Band will take its sound outdoors on Saturday, Aug. 4 when it conducts a “Best of Broadway” concert on the College’s Alumni Green in Middletown. The free concert will begin at 6 p.m. Under the direction of Kevin Scott, the band will offer suites from Lerner and Loewe’s “My Fair Lady,” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” and Claude-Michel Schonberg’s “Miss Saigon,” arranged for symphonic band. In addition, the group will perform Leonard Bernstein’s Overture to “Candide,” Norman Dello Joio’s “Satiric Dances” and other music by George Gershwin, Stephen Sondheim and John Philip Sousa. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to nearby Orange Hall Theater. The performance is sponsored by the College’s Arts and Communication Department. For more information, call 341-4787. Local musicians interested in playing in the band should contact Scott to arrange an audition. Scott is particularly interested in musicians who can play flute, clarinet, trumpet and percussion instruments. The band meets from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays at the Paramount Theater in Middletown. All musicians are invited to participate but must have their own instrument.
