Community members invited to audition; concert band or wind ensemble scores solicited from area composers MIDDLETOWN — Area composers and musicians are being courted by SUNY Orange Symphonic band director Kevin Scott, who is seeking musicians interested in performing with the band, as well as musical scores that would be considered for inclusion in the band’s final spring concert during April 2008. Scott is currently holding rehearsals for the band’s spring series of concerts, which will take place March 16 and April 28 at the Paramount Theater in Middletown. Scott is particularly interested in musicians who can play flute, clarinet, trumpet and percussion instruments. The band, comprised of SUNY Orange students and members of the community from middle school age to senior citizens, meets from 7 to 9 p.m., Wednesdays, at the Paramount. All musicians are invited to participate but must have their own instrument. Scott, who is also interested in showcasing local writing talent, is accepting musical compositions from Hudson Valley or Delaware Valley composers that were written for concert bands or wind ensembles. He will review the scores for potential performance during future shows. Submissions not selected for a performance will be considered for public reading sessions during the band’s 2007 summer program or for future SUNY Orange Symphonic Band concerts.
