SUNY Orange Community Orchestra begins new season Nov. 3

MIDDLETOWN, N.Y. – The SUNY Orange Community Orchestra’s 22nd season begins at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3 at Middletown’s Paramount Theatre with an evening of works by Gaetano Donizetti, Giacomo Puccini, P.D.Q. Bach, and featuring the “Symphonie Fantastique” of Hector Berlioz.
“This program is a perfect match for Halloween,” Orchestra Conductor Richard Simons said in a press release. “The ‘Symphonie Fantastique’ tops anyone’s list of scary classical music. It requires an outsized orchestra, calling for two times as many players for some instruments. A live performance offers the listener the chance to hear it in a way that even a great speaker system cannot truly reproduce. To contrast the enormity of the symphony, the first half of the concert features three works for smaller groups of our orchestra: the Puccini for the strings, the Donizetti for the winds, and the Bach for, well, for a good time.”
The Paramount Theatre, located at 17 South Street in Middletown, is universally accessible.
Tickets are $10 general admission; $5 senior citizens, age 60 and over, and all non-SUNY Orange students with school ID.
The performance is free for active duty military personnel, children under 12 and all SUNY Orange students with valid ID.
Tickets can be purchased at the Paramount Theatre Box Office.
The concert is sponsored by SUNY Orange’s Arts and Communication Department.
The orchestra is comprised of SUNY Orange students and members of the general community.
