PINE ISLAND — There were a few thunderstorm warnings but on Saturday, July 28, it turned out to be a near perfect evening for the Sunset Concert at the picturesque Scheuermann Farms and Greenhouses on Little York Road.
The event is presented each year by the Warwick Summer Arts Festival, a nonprofit Community 2000 project promoting the arts, artists, art education and art appreciation in order to create a vibrant and well-rounded art community.
The Sunset Concert Series at Scheuermann Farms is a family friendly event for all ages and an arts festival favorite. Guests brought their own picnic baskets and chairs and the children even brought toys and games and enjoyed the open space while the adults listened and danced to the music.
Teen bands Chemical Catastrophe and Eleventh Hour, winners of the 2018 Battle of the Bands Fundraiser, opened the show.
The headline, however, was The Blue Vipers of Brooklyn, performing a danceable mix of early jazz, swing and blues. And guests were invited to kick off their shoes and dance to the music under the stars.
The annual Summer Arts Festival, founded by Elizabeth Reese in 2000, features numerous summertime events from including hands-on art making, theatre, poetry, dance performances, concerts, interactive activities and a mini-film festival, designed to bring the community together through the arts.
Upcoming events are DUSKLIT interactive art festival at the Seligmann Center in Sugarloaf on Saturday, Aug. 11, and the Festival of Films, short films in a variety of genres, at the Warwick Drive-In on Thursday, Aug. 16. And the audience will vote for the best film.
