Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church to hold 91st annual fair
Sugar Loaf The Sugar Loaf United Methodist Church will hold its 91st Annual Church Fair on Saturday, Sept. 8, rain or shine, at the historic Greek revival church, located on Kings Highway in the hamlet of Sugar Loaf. The Fair will open at 10 a.m. with the traditional ringing of the bell and will end at 4 p.m. In past years, the line of fairgoers has stretched out to the highway as people eagerly wait to check out the bargains in the white elephant booth, buy a pie or purchase a hand-woven rug. Food is the main attraction for many of those attending the Fair and this year will certainly offer something for everyone’s taste. There will be hundreds of pies, along with home-baked breads, cakes, and cookies. Another booth will offer homemade candy, jams and jellies, doggie treats and gifts in a jar. Hamburgers, hotdogs, wraps and taco salad will be available for lunch at the snack bar. The Church has a very active and dedicated group of crafters who work throughout the year making each of the items for sale at the Fair. Old-fashioned fancywork will include quilts, hand knit sweaters, American Girl doll clothes, baby items, and rag rugs. There will also be a selection of Christmas and Halloween decorations, toys for children and items for home and garden. The white elephant booth is sure to offer lots of “treasures” for very little money. There will also be produce, plants and mums for sale. Entertainment will be provided by the Penny Loafer Band from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items for sale are handcrafted, homegrown and homemade by members and friends of Sugar Loaf Methodist Church and all proceeds support the ministries of the Church. Come visit the Fair and see why this traditional event has endured for 91 years. For more information, call Jane Gareiss at 986-4557.
