String Trio of New York in concert May 19 in Warwick

Warwick - The Albert Wisner Public Library will present the String Trio of New York on May 19 at 2 p.m .at the Warwick United Methodist Church on the corner of Forester Avenue and Route 17A. Billed as “Jazz for Everyone,” the concert is for jazz lovers and those who want to learn more about jazz, adults and attentive listeners ages 10 years and up. The program will include a discussion of the elements of jazz and the nature of improvisation with a demonstration of the instruments. After an intermission with refreshments the group will perform an hour-long concert. String Trio of New York is a jazz ensemble founded in 1977. The members of the group include local resident James Emery on guitar, John Lindberg on bass and Rob Thomas on violin. They have performed hundreds of concerts worldwide and have recorded 16 awarding-winning albums. A performance by the String Trio of New York encompasses original works, commissioned pieces and original arrangements of classic jazz compositions. The New York Times said of the group “as rhythmically alive, stylistically varied and consistently inventive as anything this listener has heard recently” and the Chicago Tribune in a review stated “The String trio of New York presented a lively concert of old and new music revealing a unique variety of inspirations and a most distinctive meeting of diverse minds”.
