Storm King Brass Quintet offers recital
West Point The United States Military Academy Band will continue its Chamber Music Recital Series with a performance by the Storm King Brass Quintet. Held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, at West Point’s Jewish Chapel, the recital will showcase Sgt. Maj. Rick Gerard on tuba, Sgts. 1st Class Marty Tyce on trombone and Susan Davidson on horn, and Staff Sgts. Luke MacDonald and Eric Miller on trumpet. After opening the performance with a lively “Dance” by Wilke Renwick, the quintet will present Alexander Arutiunian’s “Armenian Scenes.” The multi-movement work illustrates four settings of Armenian life. The ensemble will then perform “Konzert No. 6” by Georg Frideric Handel. Originally written for the oboe, the arrangement has been scored for brass quintet by Sgt. 1st Class Douglas Richard. After an arrangement of Hoagy Carmichael’s “Stardust,” the recital will conclude with a performance of “Suite from the Monteregian Hills” by Morley Calvert. The recital is free. Allow extra travel time for the inspections at Stony Lonesome and Thayer gates. Call the hotline at 938-2617, or check www.usma.edu/band before leaving for the recital.
