Sterling Forest — Sterling Forest State Park will offer “Family Fun Hike: Iron Mining History,” at 1 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 15. For two hundred years, iron ruled the landscape in what today is Sterling Forest State Park. This is a chance to step back in time and explore the park’s rich past, first at the visitor’s center and then on an easy 2-mile hike. On Saturday, Oct. 21, the park will sponsor “Reading the Woods,” at 1 p.m. The adventure lies in seeing deeper than the surface appearance of things and down to some of their inner meanings. The wonder lies in seeing what you are looking at. Join the hike and learn to read the woods. Note: Trails can be steep and rocky, so wear sturdy hiking shoes. Be sure to bring water and a snack, as the hike goes, rain or shine, unless noted. As always, the hikes will include stops along the way to interpret natural and historic features. Pre-registration is required for all programs. For more information or to register, call 845-351-5907.
