Starship takes off at Lycian

Sugar Loaf Remember Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship? Hear their music again when Kings Theatre Company presents the concert “Starship,” starring Mickey Thomas, at the Lycian Centre for the Performing Arts in Sugar Loaf on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8 p.m. Mickey Thomas is the owner of the voice that propelled Starship through the decades of the 1980s and 1990s. With his soulful vocals, he made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around and Fell in Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band. In 1979, he joined the Jefferson Starship as lead vocalist after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin. Backed by the power of Thomas’s vocals, Jefferson Starship scored a number 1 hit with “Jane.” The group was renamed Starship and continued to record a string of hits including “No Way Out,” “We Built This City,” “Sara,” and an Oscar nomination for the number 1 hit “Nothing Gonna Stop Us Now” from the movie “Mannequin.” Other hits included “Find Your Way Back,” “Stranger,” “Laying It On The Line,” And “It’s Not Over Till It’s Over,” which became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987. Every Starship album released since 1979 has gone gold, platinum, or multi-platinum. Mickey Thomas has revamped his band. The show now features an expanded set list that includes the multi-platinum hits of Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Starship. The expanded band and the addition of vocalist Stephanie Calvert delivers a show that includes all the hit songs and classics. Tickets are $45/$40 for adults and $30 for youth (18 years and younger) and can be purchased by calling the Lycian Centre Box Office at 469-2287 from Tuesday through Saturday between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. For more information visit www.lyciancentre.com.
