‘Stars of the Valley' quilt show set for May 20-21

Warwick - The Warwick Valley Quilters’ Guild, with 140 members from more than forty towns and cities in the Hudson and Delaware River Valleys, will hold it biennial quilt show, “Stars of the Valley,” on May 20 and 21, at the Sanfordville Elementary School, on Sanfordville Road in Warwick. This juried show will include a raffle quilt and door prizes as well as a folk art challenge. Eighteen vendors from the tri-state area, as well as Pennsylvania, will be represented. There also will be a special exhibit of works by Eda Steinman and Evelyn Faber and programs and lectures by Lisa Shepard and Brandy Browner. • Eda Steinman has been a professional quilt maker and designer since 1984. Her work has been in juried shows across the United States as well as being published in the national magazines and shown in museums. She is a charter member of the Warwick Quilters’ Guild and has served the Guild in the past as both president and program chairman. • Evelyn Faber is a charter member of the Guild. She started her first quilt in 1942, took time out to have seven children and finished that quilt in 1973. She now has a daughter and granddaughter who are quilters. She has made quilts as small as 6 x 8 inches and as large as queen size bed quilts. She is still an active member of the guild and proud to share her love of quilting with her ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren. • Lisa Shepard is a writer and designer who has demonstrated her projects and techniques on HGTV, the Discovery Channel and PBS. She is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and has been active in the textile industry as a creative director, writer, consultant, buyer and merchandiser. • Brandy Browner is a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology. She is well-versed in the area of color coordination and uses that technique in her quilt designs. She is a published author who enjoys lecturing and sharing her expertise with other quilters. The Guild has a very active ongoing outreach program which includes making caps for cancer victims, baby quilts for day care centers and Project Linus, Christmas stockings, caps and mittens for social services and walker bags for nursing homes and rehab centers. In addition, this year the Guild made quilts for domestic disaster relief programs and lap robes for veteran’s hospitals. The Guild has assembled a Boutique for the show and will have a cafe for refreshments. Admission is $5.00 for adults, children free.
