Staff ready for summer camp
Cornwall The Museum of the Hudson Highlands is fully staffed and ready to greet summer campers. The “Summer Nature Explorers” programs, for children from age 4 through grade 6, include one-week sessions from June 26 until August 18. “We are very excited about this year’s summer camp,” said Jackie Grant, executive director. “Our staff members bring great strengths to the program, and love sharing nature and the outdoors with children. We are all looking forward to a lot of fun.” Junior Explorers, for children ages four to six, is a weeklong half-day program that takes place at the Kenridge Farm location on Route 9W in Cornwall. Junior explorers can choose the morning session from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., or the afternoon session from 12:15 to 2:45 p.m. One day of the week, campers will take an off-site trip to a local destination, with parents providing transportation. The cost is $120, or $95 for members. Explorers, for children entering grades 2 through 6, is a weeklong program for discovering clues about wildlife and the environment, held at the Kenridge Farm location as well. Explorers will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and bring their own bag lunch, bottled water, and snack. One day will be spent visiting the Hudson River at the Kowawese Unique Area in New Windsor. Another day will be spent exploring another site in the Highlands or along the Hudson, with transportation by West Point Tours. Parents will provide transportation for local off-site trips. The cost is $220, or $195 for members. All group leaders are full-time museum educators or trained college graduates. The outdoor setting, small group size, and experienced staff create quite a combination. Space is limited, so register early.
