    Warwick - The following is a schedule of spring programs at the Albert Wisner Public Library. For more information or to register, call the library at 986-1047: Programs for adults: Registration is required for all programs. Call 986-1047 ext. 3. • “An Inconvenient Truth with a Conveniently Local Solution, “April 20, at 7 p.m. at Warwick Town Hall. Shawn Dell Joyce will present a slide presentation about global warming, emphasizing the local impact and local solutions to the climate crisis. Ms. Dell Joyce trained to give this slide presentation with Al Gore at the Climate Project in Nashville. • Local Poet Book Launch, April 28, 7 p.m., Applewood Winery $8 per person. The Albert Wisner Public Library is hosting a book party to celebrate the release of a new collection of poems by Paul Kane, a long-time resident of Warwick. Kane will read from his new book, “Work Life,” published by Turtle Point Press in New York, copies of which will be on sale at the event. A book-signing with a wine and cheese tasting will follow the author’s talk. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the library Foundation’s Capital Campaign. • Book Discussion - “Death Comes for the Archbishop, ”a classic published in the library’s founding year 1927. May 31, at 6 p.m., the library. Willa Cather’s best-known novel, a narrative that recounts a life lived simply in the silence of the southwestern desert. Copies available April 30 • A Thousand Paper Cranes: Origami for teens and adults, May 22 at 6:45 p.m., the library. Sugar Loaf craftsman Theresa Boswell will instruct a participants in making origami cranes and flapping birds. • Wild Women of Warwick - Wild Weddings, Water cures and Wanderings, June 3, at 4 p.m., at the library. Sue Gardner, local history librarian and archivist for the Historical Society will provide a sampling of the homemakers, authors, explorers and rebels of Warwick’s past, including a rare showing of some treasures from the archive of the Historical Society of the Town of Warwick. • Library chess for adults. Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. All levels welcome. • Library Scrabble players for adults. Groups are forming. For more information call the library and ask for Kathleen. • Jazz for Everyone! A Learning Concert, May 19, 2 to 4 p.m., at Warwick Methodist Church. Featuring local jazz artists The New York String Trio, the program will include an introduction to the instruments and the music with questions and answers. After a short break for refreshments the group will perform a one-hour concert. This program is intended for individuals and families with attentive listeners 10 years old and up. Programs for Young Adults (YA) Registration is required for all programs. Call 986-1047 ext. 3 unless otherwise noted. • Hands-on Chinese cooking, April 26, 6-7:30 p.m. at the library. Popular educator and nutritionist Norma Chang will guide participants in preparing their own Chinese stir-fry chicken and rice dinner. Class is limited to 15 people • Cartooning workshop. Florida Public Library May 1, 8 and 15 from 6:15-7:45 p.m. Open to residents in both the Warwick and Florida school districts. Call the Florida Public Library at 651-7659 to register. This three-part workshop will be taught by Florida cartoonist and author Mark McKenna, who has worked for more than 21 years with both Marvel and DC comics on the X-Men, Batman, Spiderman and other series and has published his independent work, Banana Tail. • Go Fly a Kite! May 7 at 7 p.m. at the library. Eileen Korn will once again teach how to design and create your own kite. • Babysitting workshop, May 29 and May 30 at 6 p.m. at the library. Conducted by the Orange County Child Care Council, this is a two-part workshop. Class is limited to 20 students in sixth grade or higher. Programs for children: • Preschool programs. Stories, sing songs, fingerplays and fun. • Toddler Time: 18 to 36 months. A program for toddlers and a parent or guardian. Toddlers will be introduced to the world of books through stories, fingerplay and songs. • Preschool storytime (for children 3-5). This storytime includes great books, fingerplays, songs and a fun craft. • Saturday morning storytime (no registration necessary). Saturdays 10:30-11:15 a.m., April 21-May 19. For this storytime, you may just drop-in. Open to all 2-5 year olds (pre-school). Includes stories, songs, and crafts. • Special programs for children. Registration is required. Call 986-1047 ext.4. All programs are at the library. • Poetry book, April 10 at 4:15-5 p.m., Grades 2-5. April is National Poetry Month; create a booklet to write your favorite poems in. • Chess Club, April 17-May 15 at 6:45-7:45 p.m. Grades 2-5. Beginners and more seasoned players will have fun and learn. • Spring Craft, April 19 at 4:15-5 p.m., Grades K-3. Celebrate by making a home for a feathered friend. • Book-to-Movies, April 28 at 3-5 p.m., Ages 4-8. Hear a reading of “The Ant Bully” and then see the movie. • Cinco de Mayo, May 5 at 1:30-2:30 p.m., Grades 2-5, Register by April 16 . Come to the Fiesta to hear stories, make salsa and break the pinata. • Mother’s Day craft, May 10 at 4:15-5 p.m. Grades K-2. Register by April 16. Paint a terra cotta pot and plant it with pansies. • Fairyland and Pixie Dust, May 15 at 4:15-5 p.m. and May 19 at 1:30-2:15 p.m. Ages 4-7. Register by April 16. Spring is a great time to build a fairy house. Parent and child will collect objects from nature and create a little fairy home and make fairy dust. • Father’s Day Craft, June 14 at 4:15-5 p.m. Grades K-2. Register by May 14.
