Spring concert features baroque music

Middletown Friends of Middletown Thrall Library will host their eleventh annual spring concert, “A Vocal and Instrumental Extravaganza,” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 7, at Middletown Thrall Library. The program, presented in two parts, will focus on instrumental and vocal selections by composers J. S. Bach, including “Sonata for Flute in E Minor,” arias for tenor from operas by Jean Phillipe Rameau, and a cantata for countertenor by Handel. The program will be performed by Brooklyn Baroque - harpsichordist Rebecca Pechefsky, baroque flutist Andrew Bolotowsky, and baroque cellist David Bakamjian - who will be joined by countertenor Drew Minter and tenor James Ruff. Minter has appeared in leading roles in opera houses in Boston, Washington, Brussels, Glimmerglass, and Nice. Ruff has sung with the Handel and Hadyn Society, The King’s Noyse, the Newberry Consort, and at the Spoleto Festival. The program will take place in the community room at 11-19 Depot Street.
