Spring classes at Warwick Valley Community Center, starting May 10

    Warwick — The Warwick Valley Community Center will be offering spring classes for both children and adults. Drawing from Nature will be held on Wednesdays, starting May 10, for four weeks. Sessions will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for students in kindergarten to grade 4, and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for students in grades 5 to 8. Children can learn to draw trees, flowers, mountains, and many things around Warwick. Pencil, charcoal and pastel techniques will be covered. The cost is $32 plus materials. Cooking with Roseann II will be held on Thursdays, May 11, and 18, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for students in grades 2 to 5. In the hands-on class, children can learn to read a recipe, make quick meals, and create their own menus. The cost is $60. Drawing I: Charcoal and Eraser will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays, from May 11 to June 1. Participants will learn how to effectively draw basic shapes and understand the importance of composition, value and light in drawing. They will learn how to critique their work and the work of their peers. Weekly projects will include how to make a still-life with objects found around the home, and how to create a still-life drawing. The cost is $80, plus materials. Introduction to 35 mm Digital Photography will be held from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays from May 10 to 31. Participants must bring their digital camera and manual. The class will focus on the basic elements of art - line, shape, color, pattern, composition - and how they are applied in photography. A discussion will include points-of-view, depth-of-field, and direction of light. Tips will be offered to improve photographs, as well as how to properly use and care for equipment, and use the settings of the camera. The cost is $40.
