Spanish language program for children begins April 12 in Highland Mills

Highland Mills The Meade Enrichment Academy in Highland Mills is launching a Spanish language program for children aged 5 to 7, headed by Chaffee Monell. A fluent speaker, Monell spent three years living and working in the Dominican Republic as part of a Peace Corps rural community development team. Over the past 13 years teaching Spanish to children aged pre-K to fourth grade at Rockland Country Day School, Monell has developed his own special brand of language instruction. This methodology emphasizes a highly interactive approach, including the use of songs, chants, and games designed to make the learning process stimulating and enjoyable for young learners. By making use of expressions, movements, gestures and sign language, Monell is able to clearly communicate while verbally speaking almost entirely in Spanish. The Spanish program at Meade is geared to the interests and learning styles of young children, mimicking the natural way in which they learn a language. “Children will acquire Spanish language skills incidentally while focusing on the fun activities happening in the classroom,” said Academy Director Kim Hood. Classes begin April 12. Cost is $155. For more information, contact Meade Enrichment Academy at 845-313-0431 or on the Web at www.meadeacademy.com.
