SoJin Kim performs May 17 in Newburgh

Woomyung Choe and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra present its season finale introducing violinist SoJin Kim on Saturday, May 17 at 8 p.m. in the Newburgh Free Academy High School Auditorium, 201 Fullerton Ave. Kim will perform both Reger’s Romanze No. 2 in D Major for violin and Glazunov’s violin concerto in A minor. Starting the piano at three and the violin at eight, Kim was the gold medalist at the Korean National Children’s Music Competition at nine. She has garnered numerous first prizes since, including the Moon-Wha-Il-Bo Competition in Korea and the Montreal Classical Music Festival Competition. Winning the Juilliard Concerto Competition resulted in her Lincoln Center solo debut. As a very active soloist and a chamber musician in New York City, Kim has already performed at Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall. The Shacklett Preview at 7 p.m. is a pre-concert introduction to the evening’s music by Gordon Shacklett. Ticket prices are $25 for reserved seating, $20 for general admission, $15 for seniors, $10 for students, and children under 7 are admitted free of charge.
